In regards to your final response " Phones are a need in this day and age, without them, we would be disconnected." because of the over usage of mobile phones many people are disconnected from each other rather than connected. For example, back when phones were less mobile many people would chat and communicate with others on transport, but now many people refuse to make eye contact and are glued to their phones to avoid "awkward social contact"
It is vital to have the use of a mobile phone at hand 24/7 not for applications but rather for on the spot communication to emergency services and your parents. Yes many people argue that you don't need a phone because they're a waste of money and are an over exaggerated need, there have been many children, teenagers and adults lives saved because of the use of a mobile phone. On the other hand many lives have been taken from mobile usage, in the car.
Whether the phone is in use for the travel to school or everyday life, everyone no matter what age needs a mobile phone.
